Oklahoma Rising

It is hard to believe that Monday is already here again. It is time for our weekly music selection. This week Andrew got the chance to choose what song he wanted to put on the blog. He will be taking you on a tour of our great state of Oklahoma.

It is funny, we have only been back in Oklahoma for about 10 months, but Andrew is a Sooner through and through. He has become a huge OU fan.

We are living in Oklahoma during an exciting time in their history. This year they will be celebrating their 100th birthday as a State. This is a stark contrast to coming from a part of the country that is over 400 years old. Nonetheless, it is exciting to be a part of this year long celebration. The kids have come home belting out various Oklahoma tunes....

"Oklahoma! Where the wind comes sweepin' down the plain
And the wavin' wheat can sure smell sweet
When the wind comes right behind the rain..

"Boomer Sooner, Boomer Sooner",

"It's Oklahoma Rising..."

This is a new song that was written and recorded by Jimmy Webb and Vince Gill to commemorate Oklahoma's Centennial.

Welcome to the Great State of Oklahoma. Have a look around y'all.

Nice video. I don't think there was so much green in OK. I'm questioning a couple of scenes that showed some grassy hills. Those CAN'T be in OK.

Alec and I were expecting Toby Mac from Andrew's selection. He just bought the "Diverse City" album recently, and we have been kicking that in my truck. It's great.

Hey Scotts! I have the opportunity to come out to Ft Sill in September (28-30th)... Is that close? If I came out could we get together? I have the choice b/w Ft Lewis (Washington) or Ft Sill. So just let me know if I should choose the great state of Oklahoma!

We are planning to do a cross country trip next summer. I've never been to OK so maybe you all will still be there when we drive through! Now THAT would be fun! My man was just telling me the other day how I could get a great picture of a storm off in the distance on those flat roads. Had no idea there were hills there!!
Thanks Andrew for sharing your picks!
