Movie Time

Last week I took the kids to the to see the new Nancy Drew movie. Emma is a voracious reader; however, it is hard to find new books for her to read.(If you have any book recommendations feel free to leave them in your comments.) I had been trying to get her to read a Nancy Drew mystery for a year or so. Whenever I can get Emma started in a series it is great because once she gets into it she will practically devour the entire collection. I am not sure where she gets this obsessive tendency? :) Well, when we saw the preview for the Nancy Drew movie I knew it would be a good motivator for her to read one of the books. I told her that if she read just ONE Nancy Drew book I would take all three kids to see the movie, less forty eight hours later she had read one and was starting another. Mission Accomplished. Just as I had promised off we went to the local movie theater, the movie was cute and we have a new Nancy Drew fan on our hands.

Well, that brings me to the point of my blog post. While we were at the movie theater something caught my eye. FREE Movies. Yes, I was thinking the same thing I thought when I saw the free Root Beer float sign, "nothing is free". Sure enough it is true. All summer at AMC theaters nationwide there will be free kids movies every Wednesday morning(except July4th, which happens to be on a Wednesday). Check out their website and enter your zip code to see where the nearest participating theater is. OK, so maybe these are not the newest releases, most of them are movies that have come out in the last 6 months or so, but if your kids are anything like mine they will watch the same DVDs over and over again. It will just a be a good reason to get our of the heat(or the rain) and enjoy the big screen. Plus at a price like this, you can actually afford to buy the kids their own popcorn and drink. :) I forgot to mention that for $3 you can buy a kid's pack with a small drink, popcorn and a small candy treat, PERFECT! For $9 plus the price of my diet Coke we are all set.

Thanks for the good review of the movies. My daughter wants to see it and she's read a few Nancy Drews and really enjoyed them. I saw that about the free kids movies at our theater and thought what a great idea for a Wednesday with the kids ;-)

K has been talking about going to see that movie also. We were out of town when it opened and we forgot about it. I don't think it's even playing at our little theater. We may have to drive to Annapolis to see it. That would include a stop by Maggie Moo's as well.

Thanks for the review.

A friend of mine told me about the free movies last summer and I was planning on giving it a try this summer this year since Ainsley is older. Maybe we will go tomorrow. It would be a nice way to beat the heat and the kids love the movie theater.

We had heard about the free movies. We plan to take advantage of it as well. Kaitlin has the same issues with reading a new book or anything that is new. It must be her idea; new food, movie, games, books, etc.

Sometimes I'm a little picky about movies. How was the murder handled? Anything your kids were frightened over?

We used to love the free AMC movies during the last two summers in Va! I can't wait until the Nancy Drew movie heads our way ~ usually about a month after the States open. I am sure my boys will like it too :) Thanks for the great review!!

For those of you in VA, NC, SC, MD Consolidated Theaters also has kids movies this summer. They aren't free but they are only $1 parents are free. They are mostly the same movies as AMC but they run a couple of days a week. So if Wedesdays don't work for you and you live by one of these theaters you can still see a movie for cheap - They also have cheap snacks. Check and see if there is a theater near you the website is http://www.consolidatedmovies.com/kids_movie.asp

SWEET! We did that a few years ago and I have fogotten about it since. Thanks for the reminder! Glad your reader found a new series to indulge in. I am always looking for good books to read so I'll check back here for suggestions!

I suggest she read The Grimm Sisters. I read one of them and I couldn't put it down, finished it in a day. There is one other I know of and I can't wait to read it. I am reading it to my class next year when we do fairytales. I think Emma would like them. Here is the Amazon link...all the other ones suggested are also good...My class loved "The Penderwicks" its a great summer book about 4 sisters. "Princess Academy" is also a cute one. Let me know if she needs more! Way to go Emma on being such an avid reader! Love ya'll!

Meggo,
Thanks for the great book suggestions, I think she has read the Princess Academy but I will have to check out the other ones. I have seen the Penderwicks and thought it looked cute.
